The Royal Almoner of the Royal House of Sulu
His Royal Majesty Ampun Sultan Hadji Muedzul-Lail Tan Kiram, The 35th Sultan of Sulu and North Borneo is extremely thankful to the voluntary officers of the Royal Chancellery who continuously support him and the Tausug people of Sulu. Among them is His Highness Datu Cheong Ming Lam, the royally adopted son of His Majesty.
H.H. Datu Dr Cheong Ming Lam is a Security Specialist in the aviation industry and was the former Secretary General and Chancellor of the Royal Order of the Pearl of Sulu. He is also the Viscount of Shang (Godenu in Ghana), Personal Aide-de-Camp ADC(P), Datu Paksa to the Sultan and is the longest serving officer of the Royal Chancellery. He currently provides invaluable support to the Sultanate of Sulu as His Majesty’s Royal Almoner.
As a citizen of the United Kingdom, he has been involved in charitable works which includes the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem and the British Red Cross. He has also served as a School Governor and is a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
His interest and love for the ancient City of London has led him to become a Freeman of the City of London and served as a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers. He is also a Burgess of the City of Glasgow and Guild Brother of the Incorporation of Wrights of Glasgow.
In the United States of America, he has received a number of honours which includes a Honorary Kentucky Colonel, Honorary Texas Admiral and Honorary Alabama Colonel.
He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Management and achieved academic awards like the Graduateship Award in Leadership and Management (GCGI) and the Licentiateship Award in Management (LCGI) from the City and Guilds Institute. He has also been appointed as an Honorary Research Professor of the Complutense University of Madrid, Honorary Cooperating Professor of the Albizu University and Honorary Professor of Logos University in the United States.
H.H. Datu Cheong Ming Lam is a Royal Companion of the Collar of the Royal Order of the Pearl of Sulu. He is a Hereditary Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Order of the Lion awarded by (H.M. King Kigeli V of Rwanda); a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Order of the Crested Crane awarded by (H.M. King Yuhi VI of Rwanda); a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Order of the Lion awarded by (H.R.H. Togbe Osei III of Godenu in Ghana); an Omukungu of the Royal Order of Engabu awarded by (H.M. Omukama Solomon Iguru I of Bunyoro-Kitara in Uganda); a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Order of the Crown awarded by (H.R.H. Princess Owana Ka`ohelelani La`anui Salazar of Hawaii); a Knight Commander of the Royal Order of St. Michael of the Wing awarded by (H.R.H. Duarte Pio, Duke of Braganza of Portugal); Ballesteros de Hermandad of the Noble Compañia de Ballesteros Hijosdalgo de San Felipe y Santiago in Spain; Plaque of Justice of the Capítulo Noble de Fernando VI in Spain; an Honorary Cross of the Royal and Merciful Society of Bearer of the Medal and Awards of Belgium; and awarded a Silver Merit Medal of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George by (H.R.H. Prince Pedro Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Duke of Calabria).
